Painting for a friend. I stressed out a bit over this one because I was having artist block. I literally sat on my floor and stared at the blank piece of paper for probably a cumulative hour, trying to visualize it… But I mean, all in all, I find painting tigers really enjoyable—maybe even a little therapeutic. That is, after the “freak-out” I go through until the stripes are on… Maybe it’ll be less stressful if I practice tigers more.

Well first, I sketched the tiger very lightly in pencil. Then I used clear water to wet the colored part of the tiger so that I can use the wet-on-wet technique with yellow/orange/red. that's how the color is sort of blended. To get hard edges of color, wait for the paper to dry.
Then I did the water next. Actually, I had not planned on doing the streams of water, so I had started by dabbing/splattering blue paint to make those splotches (a straw is super fun to use on puddles of paint). I used 2 different blue paints to give it some depth, and it didn't seem like enough, so I used crimson in thin layers to make that purple-y color in some parts.
Next I painted the stripes and detail over the tiger with ink. Doing that part = practice-- drawing from reference~ : D oh, and finally, I used white acrylic paint for some highlights and the bubbles. The bubbles were made using the back end of the brush, and dipping it in the paint, haha!

Wow 0.0 Whats the wet on wet technique? ^^() Thankyou so much for explaining how you did it all! I might give it a try aswell!

wet on wet is how you get it to look fuzzy. It's when you have both the paper and your brush wet and apply the paint. it looks VERY different from when you apply paint with a wet brush on dry paper. Try it yourself and experiment! : D I'm far from being an experienced painter, so most of it is really like "well i wonder what it'll do if i do this!?" hehe. happy painting! and merry Christmas!

This is absolutely gorgeous, I love this so much. I really am amazed with the stripes because I have such a hard time with tigers myself and this is really wonderful. I really love this. :iconsleepygreeceplz:

Thank you so much!!

Actually, I always had an awful time with drawing tigers too. The stripes looked awkward and never came out right for me either. But...I am not sure what happened-- I decided to paint a tiger for my final project in one of my classes (I might have forgotten about my fear of drawing them haha), so I saved a bunch of reference photos, did some studies before the real thing, and BAM. Decent looking tiger. o_O
